What Are The Symptoms of Periodontal Disease?

It's not unusual for people who are having ongoing pain in their gums...or who have bleeding gums...or have pain while eating...to do a quick Google Search to try and self-diagnosis their issues.

And while we advise people to come in for an evaluation by a periodontal professional instead of giving too much credence to a random webpage, it's certainly not uncommon for people to "go online" first.

One of the most common searches is..."what are the symptoms of periodontal disease?" *We find most patients will use "gum disease" first as it a more common term.

It's important to not too, that often, there are no really noticeable symptoms...especially in the early stages of the disease.
As your issues progress, you can have some of the following symptoms:

  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Bad breath
  • Deep pockets around the teeth
  • Spaces between the teeth
  • Loose or shifting teeth
  • Receding gums around the teeth (longer looking teeth)

Do these sound familiar?

If so, perhaps it is time to schedule an appointment with our periodontists. We can provide a full evaluation, answer any questions you might have and then prepare a treatment plan for helping you correct the problems you are having.
