Overview of Dental Implant Procedure in Stuart FL Periodontist

What is a dental implant procedure like?

This can be a common question for patients who've never had dental implants. Here is a brief overview.

For most patients, the placement of their denture implants involves two surgical procedures. It will depend on the type of procedure being done of course. Some, like sleep apnea oral appliances, are relatively non-invasive and do not require any major surgical procedures at all.

For those that do, the first step involves the implants being placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following your surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums and are gradually bonding with the jawbone -- your body is 'accepting' the implants. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. If you look for dentures, you should be able to find a few good options nearby where to get this done. With this taken care of, your dentist will be able to take his time and be careful as he is forming new replacement teeth.

After the implants have bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Our doctors will then uncover the implants and attach small posts, which will act as anchors for your new artificial teeth. These posts protrude through the gums. When the artificial teeth are placed, these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months.

It's important to note that most patients experience minimal discomfort and minimal disruption in their daily life.
