If you're trying to keep up with the latest in Oral Health News, there is a wealth of information to be found online.
From time to time, we share interesting articles on our Facebook Page as well as here on the Stuart Center Blog.
The following are three articles we shared recently on our Facebook page.
Hooked on Opioids? Seems like many people are. In Medical News Today, it was said "Opioid abuse has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, and often begins with a prescription for a pain medication."
You might know them better by their other names: hydrocodone, oxycodone and codeine.
It seems as though dentists and other oral health care professionals are leading the way in prescribing them. Patients are prescribed them after tooth extractions and other dental procedures in which their is initial and potential ongoing pain.
And simply, patients get hooked on the drugs that make them feel better. Read further in the article above.
In a recent article on Time.com, the question was asked about the importance of mouthwash.
The consensus seems to be that mouthwash should be seen as just one tool in your oral health efforts, along with brushing, flossing and regular dental visits. It should not be a substitute for any of them.
You don't need mouthwash. Water will work nearly as well. But if you feel better about using it, there are really no significant issues to be concerned with.
An interesting article on MedicalDaily.com, says that "brushing your teeth may impact more than just your oral and heart health; it may have an influence over your brain and cognitive function, according to a new study."
The article outlines research that associates gum disease with Alzheimer's disease, specifically...can a decrease in your oral hygiene negatively impact your cognitive functions?
The research seems to suggest so. Read more here.
